There have been Hannefords performing in show business since the seventeenth century, including stage and screen, but particularly in the circus. One, Edmund, was a favorite of England's King George III. Another, Poodles, was, and still is, acknowledged as the greatest comedy bareback rider of all time and starred in silent movies, some directed by Fatty Arbuckle. Many generations of the family have starred with Ringling Brothers And Barnum & Bailey Circus - including George and Victoria and their daughter, Catherine. Today there are two main branches of the family represented in the circus world: Tommy and Strupi Hanneford, who own and produce the Royal Hanneford Circus, traveling all over the eastern U.S.A., and George and Victoria Hanneford, who own and produce the Hanneford Family Circus, now in their TENTH year of residency at the famous FT.
